Kai Kitchen
Kai kitchen is an app that aims to limit food waste while assisting university students to make healthy eating choices. Its main preface is that users can input ingredients from their pantry (they they don’t have a clear use for), and the app will suggest a list of recipes that include those particular ingredients.
The aim is to utilise food that is about to expire and would otherwise be thrown out soon, as well as providing students with healthy and substantial meal options. The benefits mean that food waste is limited and students can follow a healthy diet, which many young people struggle to achieve when they are having to cook for themselves for the first time. It takes the stress off finding a good meal to make and could be filtered by gluten-free, lactose intolerant, vegan etc to accommodate many diets.
Designing for sustainable behaviour has been employed during this project to create an effective and encouraging interface for consumers, helping the app achieve definitive sustainable change within its users.
