The Social Stitch
The goal of The Social Stitch is to bring communities together and advocate for a slow fashion approach through local, social workshops on mindful mending. This intervention aims to serve multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals by implementing public acts of responsible consumption and production to create climate action. The most sustainable way to shop is to wear things we already own, therefore spreading knowledge about how to up-cycle & increase the longevity of our garments is the first step in achieving widespread change. Individuals who attend will be provided with the tools, materials, instructions and tutors necessary to cater to their skills and build a new understanding of mindful mending practices. By operating in a social sphere (with drinks, food, movies etc), The Social Stitch aims to strengthen connections, share mass knowledge and advocate for mindful consumption in a way that appeals to a student demographic. As a result, workshops aim to to implementing a desire in the community for slow-fashion practices by building a public capability and passion for mindful mending.
